  • BIOS: The BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) is a software program that controls the basic functions of a computer. It manages the interactions between the operating system, peripherals and hardware components of the computer. The BIOS can be considered the keystone of the entire system, as it is responsible for the initial start-up of the operating system.

  • UEFI: The UEFI standard (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) defines an interface between the firmware and the operating system of a computer. On some motherboards, this interface replaces the BIOS.
