SMART

The SMART test performs background checks to detect warning signs of impending hard drive failure, such as bad sectors, high error rates, abnormally high temperatures, etc. If problems are detected, the SMART test can alert the user to the need to replace the hard drive before a complete failure occurs, thus saving data and preventing data loss.

Although it is not purely security, it is recommended to enable this option.
